Erfurt (dpa/th) – The Thuringian state parliament wants to discuss the 2023 budget for the first time in a special session on September 5th. “This means that the conditions are in place for the budget to be passed this year,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Finance on Monday. On a normal schedule, that’s enough. But he also referred to the long negotiations on the 2022 state budget.
After the cabinet of the red-red-green minority government agreed on a draft last week, the issue is now in the state parliament. For the year 2023, the Thuringian state government is planning a spending record of 12.8 billion euros. That would be 900 million more than in the previous year. The government needs four votes from the opposition to achieve a majority in the state parliament. FDP and CDU have already criticized the draft.
The state budget for 2022 was only passed at the beginning of February this year after months of tug-of-war. As a result, social organizations complained about a lack of planning security at the time. Ultimately, the opposition CDU voted with the government factions. In the negotiations at the time, she brought together, among other things, lump-sum savings of 330 million euros and some of her substantive demands.
