Erfurt (dpa/th) – The forest administration in Thuringia currently expects comparatively little damage from mice in the forests. Since the warm and dry summer, the mouse density has been below the previous year’s value almost everywhere, Thüringenforst announced on Tuesday in Erfurt. In the coming years, however, the mouse damage could increase again. This is due to the fact that a higher proportion of deciduous trees is used in forest conversion and reforestation. Hardwoods are more likely to be a target for mice than softwoods.
