Erfurt (dpa/th) – Thuringia becomes a member of the European Alliance of Automotive Regions (ARA). This was announced by European State Secretary Malte Krückels on Tuesday in Erfurt. It is a political network of currently 19 regions that are strongly influenced by the automotive and supplier industry and are particularly affected by the trend towards electromobility.
Thuringia is strongly characterized by the automotive supply industry. For many years, the car industry was the sector with the highest turnover in the Free State, but had lost sales in the past two years.
According to Krückels, the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Saxony and Lower Saxony also belong to the alliance in Germany. The network created in June 2022 goes back to an initiative of the EU Committee of the Regions. It should also serve as a common representation of interests vis-à-vis decision-makers in the EU. Regions from France, Italy, Austria, Slovakia and Spain are also represented in the network.
