Erfurt (dpa/th) – The left wants to go into the deliberations on the 2023 budget with the demand for a third year of daycare free of charge. This could save families around 1,300 euros, said the left-wing faction in the Thuringian state parliament on Thursday after a budget meeting in Erfurt. They want to focus on the financing of social and societal participation as well as a “nationwide mobility guarantee for everyone”.
The parliamentary group also decided that there would no longer be any consent from its ranks to a so-called global underspending. This is a contentious issue in Thuringia. With the 2022 budget, the state parliament decided on this savings target at the urging of the opposition CDU parliamentary group in particular. It forces the government to save 330 million euros over the course of the year. The left did not want to agree to a budget that “ignores the reality of life and current social challenges,” they emphasized.
