Erfurt (dpa/th) – Electric trains, dolls or playing cards: According to statistics, five Thuringian companies produced toys for young and old worth 98.8 million euros in 2021. This is the highest production volume since 1991, said the Thuringian State Office for Statistics on Wednesday. At 17 million euros, the production value was almost 21 percent higher than in 2020.
According to the information, toys worth around 1.7 billion euros were produced nationwide in 2021. That was about 1 percent more than in 2020. The share of production value generated in Thuringia in total German production was almost six percent in 2021. In the previous year it was almost five percent.
In the first half of this year, however, toy production declined: from January to June, four Thuringian companies produced toys worth 34 million euros. Compared to the first half of 2021, that was a good 15 percent less.
