Erfurt (dpa/th) – The municipalities in Thuringia can now spend more money than last planned for youth development this year. Initially, around two million euros had been canceled for local youth work. Now a large part of the canceled sum is to be taken from other programs where the funds were not spent. Around 1.8 million euros are therefore available for youth work in the cities and districts, said the spokespersons for youth policy from the SPD, Left and Greens on Monday in Erfurt. After intensive consultation, Red-Red-Green and Education Minister Helmut Holter agreed on this solution.
Holter’s ministry confirmed the info. The money was funds from Corona youth programs that were left over due to a lack of demand, it said.
Children and young people in particular have borne a large part of the burden in the pandemic, said the youth policy spokeswoman for the Left Group, Kati Engel. That is why we are committed to the youth clubs and all planned projects. “But the case that occurred here clearly shows that the amount of funding for youth work on site must be legally secured in the future,” said SPD youth politician Denny Möller. Astrid Rothe-Beinlich said in her function as youth policy spokeswoman for the Greens parliamentary group that from 2023 it would be the declared goal to secure local youth promotion even better.
