The Irish police’s cold-case unit will conduct a “full evaluation” of the 1996 murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier, west Cork. It was found by her neighbors in a laneway close to her Schull home on 23 December 1996. The murder has never been solved. The Garda Serious Criminal Review Team will conduct a thorough review of the case. It follows a review done by the assistant commissioner of organised and serious crime. “On the completion of this review, The Serious Crime Review Team (gardai) will make recommendations to the local investigative team.” Gardai stated that the investigation into the murder of her mother was still ongoing.
