A least one person died this morning when a train struck a car on railroad tracks in New Smyrna Matadorbet Beach, police say.

Few details about the incident have been released, but police said the car was seen driving on the railroad tracks 10th Street.

New Smyrna Beach police officers were directing traffic around that crossing while working to clear the stopped train.

Firefighters told WOFL-Channel 35 the car caught fire after the collision, but was quickly extinguished.

Police haven’t said why the vehicle was on the railroad tracks.
