Donald Trump will post $200,000 bail in a Georgia court to try him for his actions in the 2020 election in the southeastern state, according to court documents released Monday.
The former US president and his 18 co-defendants in this case have until noon Friday (4:00 p.m. GMT) to report to the Fulton County Court jail in Atlanta, the state capital.
He is expected to go there on Thursday, CNN said Monday, citing unnamed sources.
In view of this deadline, his lawyers have agreed to pay $ 200,000 bail, without indicating the date on which he will appear in court.
Four other of his co-defendants have also agreed to post bail ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 each.
The posting of a bail allows the defendants not to be remanded in custody, provided that they do not violate any law, abstain from any threat and do not communicate with each other other than through their lawyers.
A grand jury – a panel of citizens with investigative powers – appointed by Atlanta County District Attorney Fani Willis on August 14 indicted Mr. Trump and 18 others for their alleged wrongful attempts to obtain the reversal the result of the 2020 election won in this key state by current Democratic President Joe Biden.
They are prosecuted under a law on organized crime which provides for sentences of five to twenty years in prison.
This is the fourth criminal indictment of the former president, who is running for the White House again and remains the favorite for the Republican primaries.
