Officials said that a loose camel attacked and killed 2 men on a Tennessee farm.
According to a news release, Bobby Matheny (42), and Tommy Gunn (67) were attacked by the camel at Shirley Farms near Obion, 100 miles northeast from Memphis.
According to the release, Deputies were alerted about the camel at 4:45 p.m. Matheny and Gunn were found unconscious on the ground by Matheny. The camel was still loose.
Officials said that multiple agencies responded to the call to help and moved the victims to safety.
The release said that deputies attempted to transport one of the victims to an ambulance when the camel returned, “attacked” the sheriff’s vehicle, and then moved towards the deputies.
The sheriff’s office stated that “it was at this point officers had to place the camel down for safety of everyone on the scene.”
Officials said that Matheny, from Ridgely, Tennessee, as well as Gunn, from Obion, succumbed to injuries later and were declared dead on the spot.
Shirley Farms declined comment to NBC News.
It is not clear from where the camel was born. According to Shirley Farms’ Facebook page, Pumpkin Barn LLC has a petting-zoo.
