Photos and videos circulating on social networks show a large police presence and security cordons blocking several streets in the city center. Fire engines as well as liaison officers responsible for coordinating the work of several emergency services are also present. A police official, Neil Humphries, had urged the public to avoid the area as these roads “are expected to remain closed for some time”.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described Tuesday’s events in Nottingham as “shocking”. “I would like to thank the police and emergency services for their response to the shocking incident in Nottingham this morning. I am kept informed of developments. You have to give the police time to do their job,” he said on Twitter.
