Fighting continues in kyiv. Night strikes on the Ukrainian capital left at least one dead and four injured, authorities reported before dawn on Thursday (July 13th). This is the third consecutive night of attacks where explosions were heard in multiple neighborhoods. Authorities claimed to have shot down twenty Russian drones and two cruise missiles during this new night of directed attacks, among other things, against its capital Kiev.
Emergency services responded to calls in the Solomyansky, Shevchenkivsky, Podilsky and Darnytsky neighborhoods following “explosions in the capital”, city mayor Vitali Klitschko said. “In the Podilsky district, while fighting a fire in an apartment building, the body of a person was discovered,” Vitali Kitschko said on Telegram. Two people were injured in the Darnytsky district “as a result of falling debris”, Sergiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said on Telegram.
“We conducted a successful air defense operation,” Air Force spokesman Youri Ignat said. “Twenty Shahed drones were destroyed, all those flying were shot down. Two Kalibr cruise missiles were also destroyed,” he said.
The mayor added that two people had been “hospitalized” in similar circumstances in that same neighborhood. But it is still unclear whether these are the same victims. Two other people in the Shevchenkivsky district were treated on the spot, Vitali Klitschko said.
A fire broke out in an apartment building in the Shevchenkivsky district and in a non-residential building in Podilsky, he added, adding that emergency services were on the scene.
A photo published on the official Telegram channel of the Kyiv military administration shows a completely blown part of a wall in a room of a high building in Darnytsky. The threat of a Russian drone attack on kyiv remains real, the Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement.
