Russia claimed to have shot down in the Black Sea on the night of Friday to Saturday three Ukrainian naval drones which, according to it, were targeting the Crimean bridge. “On September 2, at around 2:20 a.m. Moscow time [23:20 GMT Friday, editor’s note], the third semi-submersible Ukrainian unmanned boat, sent by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, was destroyed in the Black Sea,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram.

On August 12, two Ukrainian missile attacks were foiled over this strategic bridge in the Kerch Strait. This bridge, built at great expense on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin after the annexation of the Crimean peninsula in 2014, has been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian attacks.

A previous attack in July caused extensive damage to the road section of the structure, which is also used to transport military equipment to the Russian army fighting in Ukraine. The 18-kilometre-long concrete bridge, inaugurated in 2018 by Vladimir Putin, consists of two parallel structures, one reserved for road traffic and the other for rail traffic.

Crimea itself is also regularly targeted by Ukrainian strikes.
