The drop in birth rates will cause a “total collapse” in the West, according to the opinion of the Prime Minister of Italy, the far-right Giorgia Meloni, this Thursday in her speech at the Demographic Summit being held in Budapest, and during which she rejected that Immigration solves that trend.
“Developed countries are moving towards a total collapse. We have to see the causes. Demography is the challenge in capital letters,” Meloni told the participants in an ultra-conservative conference, which is being held between Thursday and Friday and whose main theme is family, and in which ultra-conservative and far-right leaders participate.
According to Meloni, the image of the family has changed in recent decades to the point that it “fades” and stated that “the future is very worrying.” Italy is one of the European countries where the birth rate is lowest, at just 1.24 children per woman, below the European average of 1.56.
In this sense, Meloni gave as an example the family policies of Hungary, where this rate has gone from 1.2 in 2010 to the current 1.6. Furthermore, the head of the Italian Government stated that “values ??such as national identity or religion are under threat.”
“In our struggle, we must defend the family, God and all those elements that constitute our civilization, and we must not fall into the idea that anyone who talks about these (elements) is retrograde,” he stated. Meloni reiterated that he rejects immigration to fight demographic decline.
“Immigrants can do their part, but it is more important that citizens understand that this is not our future,” he exclaimed. The Italian also asked that the European Union (EU) “take timely measures” in the field of demography and also called for “greater coordination in this area.”
Another of the participants, the Canadian psychologist Jordan B. Peterson, considered an icon of the extreme right, defended before the hundreds of participants that the ideal family is monogamous, centered on children and that he hopes that, “with the help of God” , lasts for long decades.
Peterson added that the family is made up of a man, a woman and children and stressed that the individual achieves maturity “by having children, with that responsibility.” “Our long-term task is the monogamous relationship,” he emphasized, stating that “the alternative is hell.”
