A man grabbed a toddler in Hamburg-Jenfeld and took it with him. A passer-by noticed this and was able to stop the man, the police said on Friday. The almost two-year-old boy returned unharmed to his mother.

According to the police’s previous findings, the 22-year-old mother had taken the boy out of the bicycle trailer around 5:30 p.m. on the street near the courtyards near the Jenfeld shopping center and wanted to lock the bike. At that moment, the stranger grabbed and went with the child towards the shopping center. However, an attentive passer-by followed the man, held him and took the boy from him. The stranger got out of the grip of the passer-by and then fled. The passerby then gave the child back to the mother and left himself. The boy was unharmed.

A search for the man has so far been unsuccessful. Investigations into suspected attempted deprivation of liberty are ongoing. The background of the fact is still unclear. The police are therefore asking the passer-by who came to the woman’s aid to report.

In addition, witnesses who can provide information about the crime or the alleged perpetrator should contact the Hamburg police hotline on 040/4286-56789 or a police station.

The alleged perpetrator is said to be between 40 and 50 years old and between 1.80 and 1.85 meters tall. He should be of normal build, completely bald, have wrinkles on his forehead, close-fitting ears and a slight tummy. He is said to have been wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants at the time of the crime.
