A child managed to cross the fence that surrounds the White House on Tuesday and crawled into the gardens of the presidential compound, the head of communications of the Secret Service, Anthony Gugliemli, informed EFE.

According to that spokesman, the “curious” visitor was able to “briefly” enter the gardens of the mansion, where the president of the United States, Joe Biden, was at the time.

Immediately, several Secret Service agents, who are in charge of security at the White House, went to pick up the little boy and took him to his parents, who were waiting on Pennsylvania Avenue, the street that is right in front of the compound.

Access to the White House was restricted during the brief period it took for agents to reunite the boy with his parents.

Although the Secret Service did not confirm it, this may be the first time someone has gained trespass on the White House grounds since the fence was raised to about 12 feet.

The Secret Service decided to increase the height of the fence after several individuals managed to enter the compound without permission.

One of the most notorious cases was that of Omar González, an ex-soldier who jumped over the fence in September 2014 and managed to cross several rooms of the presidential residence armed with a knife.

The then president of the United States, Barack Obama, had left the place only a few minutes before.

The White House building is one of the most protected in the world: there are snipers on the roof and, to enter as a journalist or visitor, it is necessary to have special accreditation and pass security controls similar to those in airports.
