The department of Agriculture has suspended Wednesday the approval of the chain of sheep to the slaughterhouse of Rodez (Aveyron) in announcing a “full inspection” of the facilities, where “serious abuse” to animals that have been condemned by the association for the protection of animals, L214.

“A video published today calls into question the conditions of killing lambs to the slaughterhouse of Rodez. It shows the unacceptable practices with serious breaches of the rules of animal protection,” said the ministry in a press release.

“therefore, the minister of Agriculture and Food, Didier Guillaume, has asked, that day, the prefect of the Aveyron in the immediate suspension of the license of the chain from sheep to this slaughter,” according to the same source.

“A complete inspection of the slaughterhouse is programmed by the services of the State. The findings of this inspection will determine what further steps need to be data”, adds the ministry.

According to L214, this slaughterhouse has “serious structural problems, and slaughter practices greatly deficient”.

In 2016, the veterinary services had already found “non-compliances” for the stunning and killing of sheep in abattoir.
