All municipalities within the department were placed in a “Drought Vigilance” situation by the Hautes-Alpes prefecture on Monday, June 6. The hydrological situation is alarming. The department has a significant rainfall deficit over the past three months. This has led to very dry soils and low flows for the season in almost all of the Hautes-Alpes’ waterways. The prefecture was explained in a press release. From June 2, the Buech watershed was under “vigilance”.
For the next few days, expect hot and dry weather with the possibility of thunderstorms in some areas. These conditions could worsen the drought situation and lead to a rapid drop in river flow.
“This measure is intended to raise awareness among elected officials, users, and the general public about the current state of water resources. It encourages everyone to conserve water and decrease their consumption. The State services also recommend that local officials monitor water resources and take samples to avoid and anticipate restrictions.”
