Emma White, the managing director of My Optician in Canley, Coventry, recently completed a challenging 50km run in the Lake District to support the mental health charity Mind. This charity aims to prioritize mental health and provide support to those in need. White, who has experienced loss in her own life, felt passionate about raising awareness for this cause.
Having worked in the optics industry for over 20 years, White had been preparing for this physical and mental challenge since December. Despite feeling nervous about the self-navigation aspect of the run, she was determined to push herself for a cause close to her heart. The run coincided with what would have been her daughter’s birthday, adding an emotional layer to the experience.
Throughout the run, White faced various challenges but remained focused on her goal. She alternated between running and speed walking, pushing herself to complete the course. Despite feeling exhausted at the finish line, the sense of accomplishment was overwhelming. White finished the run in nine hours and seven minutes, raising over £1600 for Mind.
Leading up to the challenge, My Optician organized a raffle with generous prizes donated by local businesses. The community support was overwhelming, with patients, friends, and other businesses coming together to contribute to the cause. White expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of support and encouragement.
The run not only tested White’s physical endurance but also highlighted the importance of mental health and wellbeing. By sharing her journey and fundraising efforts, she hopes to shine a light on the struggles faced by many and the support available through organizations like Mind. The success of this challenge serves as a reminder of the resilience and determination needed to overcome obstacles and make a positive impact on the community.
