COMPETITION

M3 Competition M xDrive Touring, here is the full name of the model. All that to say that it benefits from standard all-wheel drive and that it has some under the hood; neither more nor less than the biturbo inline 6-cylinder borrowed from the racing M4 GT3. Despite being 85 kg overweight compared to the sedan, with its 510 hp, this station wagon boasts breathtaking performance: 3.6 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h and 280 km/h at top speed. Enough to seriously overshadow its great rival, the Audi RS4 Avant, whose V6 offers “only” 450 hp.

CHEST

500 liters is the capacity of the Touring’s trunk. It is only 20 liters more than that of the sedan. The station wagon nevertheless offers much better functionality. With the rear seatbacks folded down, the loading volume thus increases to 1,510 litres. Although tightened at the bottom and equipped with a fairly high threshold, the release of the tailgate is nonetheless much more practical for loading bulky objects. The independent window opening also makes it easy to store small items without having to open the tailgate.

DIGITAL

As a dashboard, a large horizontal digital panel combines a 12.3-inch screen for the instrumentation, behind the steering wheel, and another 14.9-inch, in the central position. The latter serves as an interface for access to the information and entertainment systems and allows the personal adjustment of most of the car’s functions. Characterized by the letter M (for Motorsport), several are essentially devoted to performance: choice of mode (road, sport or track), traction control with 10 levels, 100% propulsion and even drift.

AERODYNAMIC

Although imposing, the famous bean-shaped grille, dear to BMW, is not enough to provide cooling for the mechanics. Large scoops are therefore integrated in the lower part, while the side vents are equipped with movable flaps to promote aerodynamics at high speed. The domed bonnet, rounded fenders and rear diffuser with four large exhaust outlets combine to give this station wagon a very dynamic look. The price of the M3 Touring is €116,650, which is €2,350 more than the sedan and €18,240 more expensive than the Audi RS4 Avant.
