The President of the Government is willing to intervene in the debate on the motion of censure that Vox will register next Monday in Congress, with the intention of defending his management “model” and his political project for Spain against the alternative candidate proposed by the of Santiago Abascal to snatch La Moncloa from him and then call elections.
Government sources assume that Pedro Sánchez will go up to the congressional rostrum to reply to the intervention of Ramón Tamames, the candidate chosen by Vox to contest the presidency of the Government.
They affirm that both the Government and the PSOE fully respect the constitutional procedure of the motion of censure which, they add, must always have a constructive purpose and not be a spectacle or a “gross” as they suspect it will be on this occasion. However, they affirm that the president of the Executive will participate in it with the objective that the Chamber and the Spaniards can compare projects and models. In short, one more opportunity for Sánchez to review all the measures adopted “in defense of the general interest” and despite the difficult times marked by the pandemic, the La Palma volcano and the war in Ukraine.
In accordance with the Regulations of Congress, the leading role in the motion is held by the candidate who aspires to settle in La Moncloa, in this case Tamames, and it is not an essential requirement that the President of the Government who is to be ousted from power participates in the debate by replying. This role can be played by any deputy from the parliamentary group that supports the Government on an equal footing with the rest of the spokespersons for the different forces in the Chamber.
Despite this possibility, Sánchez, according to the sources consulted, will not miss the opportunity to address the Spanish in an attempt to, beyond confronting Tamames, openly confront the first opposition party and its leader, Alberto Núñez Feijóo. , although he cannot intervene.
The Socialists are already feeding the theory that Vox’s motion of no confidence has been engineered in collaboration with the PP. The PSOE spokesman in Congress, Patxi López, gives voice to this hypothesis arguing that Feijóo had lunch with Ramón Tamames days ago and also a meeting with Santiago Abascal. To both appointments López adds the qualifier “secret”.
The leader of the PP has referred this morning to the motion of censure that Vox will register on Monday, insisting on the need to “return to serious politics” leaving aside “the parliamentary show”. Feijóo considers that in the end it will be a “minor debate” and not because of the value of the speaker, but because the motion “does not have any possibility of prospering.”
The date for holding the debate remains in the hands of the president of the Chamber, Meritxell Batet, who will undoubtedly agree on the most convenient moment with the president of the Government. In any case, it may not take place in any case before the week of March 6. Parliamentary sources consulted by EL MUNDO bet on its celebration in the month of April, just after the Easter period.
