Spain broke a historical record in the export of natural gas by pipeline to France in April, with a flow of 6.52 terawatt hours (TWh) through the interconnections of Irún (Basque Country) and Larrau (Navarra), as reported by this Monday Enagas.
This record exceeds the one reached in May 2022, when 5.9 TWh were channeled to the neighboring country.
In the opinion of Enagás, this new brand highlights the crucial role played by the Spanish gas system in the security of the European energy supply. In the case of France, the strikes have caused a decline in local gas production, leading to a greater reliance on imports to meet its domestic demand.
“This historical record in the export of natural gas to France not only highlights the robustness of the Spanish gas system in the European environment, but also underlines the importance of having solid and efficient infrastructures that allow for cross-border energy cooperation”, Enagás underlines.
