Treasury Bills are short-term fixed-income securities that are put on the market through auctions. They are issued at a discount, so the purchase price will be less than the nominal value, except in the case of negative returns.
Each Letter of State has a value of 1,000 euros per title. If a larger amount is invested, it must always be in multiples of 1,000 euros.
The profitability obtained by the Letters at the end of the period is the difference between what you pay for them and what they will return to you on the maturity date, which is the nominal value requested, in this case the 1,000 euros.
It is worth remembering the special sales calendar that this public investment product has. Thus, the 3 and 9 month bills are auctioned on the fourth Tuesday of each month and the 6 and 12 month bills are generally auctioned on the third Tuesday of each month.
The State Bill purchase operation can be carried out in person at any Banco de España branch. However, currently these operations can also be managed both on the official website www.tesoro.es and in associated financial entities recognized by the Bank of Spain.
To make a purchase of State Bills, the interested party must provide the following documentation:
The minimum nominal value to invest is always 1,000 euros, but the money to be disbursed in the Bank of Spain is the previous deposit that is established before the auction. In the case of Letters, the previous deposit is currently 101%, that is, 1,010 euros per title.
The Banco de España appointment system allows you to make an appointment in person at the Banco de España offices both in Madrid and in the rest of the country.
Confirming a prior appointment with the Bank of Spain will make it easier for you to purchase Treasury Bills as well as carry out any other type of operation with this public entity.
