Nearly four months have passed since hundreds of wealthy passengers were supposed to start a three-and-a-half-year journey around the world on a luxurious cruise ship. However, their dream trip turned into a nightmare as they found themselves stranded in Belfast, Northern Ireland, due to delays.

The Villa Vie Odyssey, a 485-cabin cruiser, was scheduled to depart from Southampton on May 15 and then from Belfast on May 30. However, mechanical issues with the rudders and gearbox kept the ship docked in Belfast, where passengers have been awaiting departure. Some passengers have explored Belfast’s pubs, while others have taken trips around Europe to pass the time.

Despite the delays, some passengers have made the most of the situation. Angie Harsanyi, 53, and Gian Perroni, 62, found love on board and recently got engaged. They plan to have a wedding on the cruise ship in April next year. Another passenger, Holly Hennessy, 68, from Florida, has stayed positive during the delays, even purchasing Vitamin D tablets to cope with the lack of sunshine.

However, not all passengers have had a pleasant experience. Jenny Phenix, 68, was removed from the cruise after complaining about the delays in a private WhatsApp group. The company cited her behavior as impacting community morale and terminated her contract.

As the Odyssey finally prepares to set sail this week after passing sea trials, passengers are excited to embark on their long-awaited journey. Villa Vie Residences CEO Mike Petterson confirmed that the ship is expected to depart soon, bringing relief to passengers who have been waiting patiently.

Despite the challenges and delays, passengers remain hopeful and enthusiastic about the upcoming voyage. They have formed friendships, discovered love, and made the most of their unexpected stay in Belfast. As the Odyssey finally prepares to sail, passengers are eagerly looking forward to the adventures that lie ahead on their global voyage.
