Mercadona raises the price of home deliveries for the first time in more than two decades. And it does so with force: more than 50%. The supermarket chain alleges that it has not covered the costs of taking home the purchase made in the supermarket for a long time and thus justifies the increase.
Specifically, the rate goes from the current 4.21 euros to 6.5 euros. That is, it rises 54%. Or what is the same: receiving the purchase at home becomes 2.29 euros more expensive.
This, for purchases in the establishment, since those who make the purchase online through the company’s website will continue to assume a cost of 7.21 euros for minimum orders of 50 euros.
As company sources explain to EL MUNDO, the rate update has been progressively implemented since last July in the different group stores throughout Spain.
The process began in Castilla-La Mancha, then spread to the south and to the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia and will continue to be implemented in Navarra and Aragon, ending in Asturias and Cantabria. “The complete update throughout Spain will be done before the end of August,” they advance from Mercadona.
In this way, from September all geographical areas will have the rate updated. A decision that the Valencian company justifies because it did not cover the costs of the service. And that is produced after a process of analysis and reorganization of the store department, in which home delivery is incorporated.
