Mercury Insurance announced Tuesday it is now offering ride-hailing insurance for transportation-network company drivers in Texas.
Mercury said in a statement its coverage will fill the gaps between a driver’s personal auto policy and the commercial policy provided by the transportation-network company, such as Lyft and Uber.
The company added its insurance will extend drivers’ personal auto policies during the three periods of the ride-hailing drive cycle: when drivers have turned on the ride-hailing app but haven’t accepted a fare; when drivers have accepted a fare and are on their way to pick up passengers; and when drivers are transporting the passengers to their destination.
The cost of the insurance in Texas starts at about 50 cents a day, or $182.50 a year, a company spokeswoman said.
