Ile-de-France Mobilités (IDFM), the agency responsible for organizing transport in the Ile-de-France region, announced on Tuesday September 26 that it wanted an increase in the price of the Navigo pass of around 2.20 euros more per month per user. This project, which can only be validated in December, would see the monthly subscription increase to around 86.30 euros, compared to 84.10 euros currently.

After the strong increase of 12% in the Navigo pass in 2023, it would be, with a 2.6% increase, a “price moderation” in 2024, estimated Valérie Pécresse, the president of IDFM, who expressed during a press conference organized on the occasion of the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the State on the financing of public transport in the Ile-de-France region for the period 2024-2031.

The setting of next year’s prices will depend on the outcome of negotiations with local authorities in Ile-de-France – the departments as well as the City of Paris – whose contribution to the IDFM budget should increase, as well as that of the region. Ile-de-France, chaired by Ms. Pécresse.

“I am counting on the departments, on the City of Paris. The region will make this effort” in order to “serve price moderation”, she declared, recalling that “the contribution of users depends” on this agreement with local authorities.

In addition to the increase in prices on the user side and the increase in the contribution of local authorities, this memorandum of understanding provides for an increase in the mobility payment (a tax) from Parisian companies and the inner suburbs and an increase in the tourist tax. At the same time, the fee paid by IDFM to the Société du Grand Paris will be reduced.

In total, IDFM would have 800 million euros more in 2024. This is the amount “we need next year in addition,” said Ms. Pécresse.
