Global Exhibitions Day recently took place in Macao, showcasing the city’s MICE industry and its significant achievements. The event aimed to promote industry progress, economic growth, sustainable development, and enhance connections and exchanges within the industry. One of the highlights of the event was the recognition received by Macao’s MICE industry leaders on the international stage.
The appointment of a local MICE industry leader as the vice chairman of a special committee in the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) and another as the Vice President of the Asia-Pacific Region by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) is a testament to the industry’s success in Macao. These appointments not only recognize the accomplishments of the individuals but also highlight Macao’s growing presence as an international hub for MICE events.
Global Exhibitions Day, established in 2016 by UFI and IAEE, celebrates the achievements of the global MICE industry and its impact on economic development. The recent event in Macao showcased the industry’s strong recovery in the first quarter of 2024, with a significant increase in the number of conventions and exhibitions held, attracting overseas exhibitors and professional visitors. This led to a boost in non-gaming revenue, highlighting the industry’s contribution to Macao’s economy.
The per capita consumption of MICE business visitors in Macao also saw a substantial increase, indicating the industry’s ability to drive development in related sectors. IPIM’s collaboration with the MICE industry aims to attract more industry-related events to Macao, promoting the region as a premier MICE destination. Additionally, the joint efforts of IPIM and the Economic Development Bureau of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Co-operation Zone in Hengqin seek to enhance the Macao-Hengqin MICE sector and attract international projects to the region.
As the MICE industry in Macao continues to evolve, IPIM and industry stakeholders are implementing new strategies to enhance the sector’s value. By promoting cross-sectoral and cross-regional cooperation through the “Industry + MICE” approach, Macao aims to strengthen its position in the global MICE sector. The collaboration between Macao and Hengqin in promoting the “MICE² Macao x Hengqin” brand will further elevate the region’s status and expand its brand awareness internationally.
Overall, the recent Global Exhibitions Day in Macao highlighted the city’s thriving MICE industry, its achievements, and the collaborative efforts to drive economic development and promote international partnerships within the sector.
