With the 911 GT3, Porsche has already set the bar very high for lap times in 2021. However, this level should make little impression on the new GT3 RS. He comes with 525 hp and creates almost 300 kilometers per hour.
The 911 GT3 introduced in spring 2021 is now accompanied by the sharper RS ??version at prices starting at around 230,000 euros. The RS uses the technology adopted from motorsport more consistently than the GT3. Like the current GT3, it is powered by a high-revving naturally aspirated engine.
With 525 hp, the four-liter six-cylinder brings a small increase in performance, which, in conjunction with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with a shortened overall ratio, reduces the sprint time by two tenths of a second to 3.2 seconds. Unlike the GT3 (Vmax 320 km/h), the RS does not make it into the Club 300 with a maximum speed of 296 km/h.
The RS should still offer the potential for better lap times, because Porsche has given it some aerodynamic goodies. Where other 911s offer a trunk, the RS has a cooler that replaces the usual side cooling elements. The free space gained in this way in turn allows the integration of active aerodynamic elements in the flanks. Among other things, the RS is characterized by adjustable wing elements at the front and a two-part rear wing. At a speed of 200, Porsche promises over 400 kilograms of contact pressure, with which the RS outperforms the GT3 by a factor of three.
Another special feature of the aero package is the Drag Reduction System (DRS), with which the wings can be flattened at the push of a button, which ensures less air resistance and thus allows higher speeds on straight stretches. Emergency braking at high speeds, on the other hand, is supported with an airbrake function, which ensures maximum deployment of the wing elements. Also very special are the teardrop profiles of the double wishbone front axle, which provide additional downforce on the chassis.
In addition, compared to the GT3, the chassis was nodded when braking and the brake system was strengthened. In addition, in the track mode, which can be selected as an alternative to normal and sport, the compression and rebound stage of the dampers on the front and rear axles can be adjusted. The driver can regulate the rear differential lock and the DRS via controls on the steering wheel.
Finally, targeted lightweight construction measures ensure low weight. Thanks to many CFRP components, including doors, fenders and roof, the RS is said to have a curb weight of only 1450 kilograms, which in turn helps to improve lap times. Incidentally, future RS owners can measure this with a chronograph made exclusively for them by the Solothurn watch manufacturer with the model designation “911 GT3 RS”.
