It is not often that the Spanish tax authorities auctioned off a confiscated painting. This is exactly what happens now to the little “Ecce Homo” of the Baroque painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. The 58 times 46 centimeter wide image that was to be made in 1660/70 and is in good condition, belonging to a tax debtor in Barcelona. It had, as his property was seized, stashed away in Andorra. However, the tax authorities found out and confiscated the Christ. Up to the 13. August can now be on the Website of the Agencia Tributaria a bid for; the estimate is for 900,000 euros. The price is probably close to the high level of debt that must be repaid, as the value of the work. The experts indicate, with a maximum of 400,000 Euro, because it exists in several versions.
