The quarterly reports from Amazon and Apple also put the Dax in a good mood on Friday. The leading German index climbed to its highest level since mid-June and posted a plus of 1.27 percent to 13,450 points in the afternoon. On a weekly basis, the increase at this level was 1.5 percent.

The MDax of medium-sized companies gained 2.09 percent on Friday to 27,386 points. The leading eurozone index, the EuroStoxx 50, rose by 1.5 percent.

Amazon and Apple had convinced investors the night before with their annual reports. In the case of the Internet giant Amazon, it is particularly interesting that the group is expecting further growth for the next few quarters, wrote capital market strategist Jürgen Molnar from the broker Robomarkets. The fact that Apple’s smartphone business continues to go well is proof that consumers are not skimping on these products.

Fresenius falls further

In the Dax, the papers of the online fashion retailer Zalando and the chip manufacturer Infineon were lifted by the good mood in the technology sector, they gained more than eight and almost five percent respectively.

On the other hand, the shares of the dialysis group Fresenius Medical Care (FMC) found no footing. After the price slump of more than 14 percent the day before, it went further down to a low since 2009. At the end of the Dax, they lost almost four percent. UBS canceled the buy recommendation.

Investors appreciated the increased sales targets of the wafer manufacturer Siltronic with a plus of six percent. The titles were among the favorites in the MDax, in which only the shares of the forklift manufacturers Kion and Jungheinrich were even better with plus 9.3 and plus 6.8 percent respectively.

The euro was trading at $1.0195 in the afternoon. The European Central Bank (ECB) set the reference rate at $1.0122 on Thursday. On the bond market, the current yield on German government bonds fell from 0.86 percent on the previous day to 0.77 percent. The Rex pension index rose by 0.35 percent to 137.14 points. The Bund future lost 0.72 percent to 156.41 points.
