A local business in Gosport, Covers Timber & Builders Merchants, has shown incredible generosity by donating £1,136 to the ‘Sophie’s Legacy’ charity. This donation was made in memory of Sophie Fairall, a brave young girl who lost her battle with cancer at the age of ten in 2021.

The funds were raised through various depot fundraising activities, such as a ‘guess how many nails in a jar’ challenge, raffle, and donations from customers. Covers was able to double the amount collected through a company-wide match-funding initiative, resulting in a total donation of £1,136 to ‘Sophie’s Legacy’.

Sophie’s Legacy aims to fulfill the changes that Sophie envisioned during her battle with Rhabdomyosarcoma. Sophie wanted hospitals to have play specialists available seven days a week, better food for children, provisions for parents staying with their child, improved training for healthcare professionals in childhood cancer, and an increase in funding for research to improve treatments and outcomes for young patients.

The charity also provides support to families with children in hospitals in Portsmouth and Southampton by funding snack/toiletry boxes, transport, emergency clothing, and more. The dedication of Sophie and her family has garnered support from the community, including local businesses like Covers, who are committed to continuing Sophie’s mission.

During a recent charity football match between Portsmouth Legends and a veteran Manchester United team, the donation from Covers was presented to Charlotte Fairall, Sophie’s mother and CEO of Sophie’s Legacy. Charlotte expressed her gratitude for the support from local businesses like Covers, emphasizing that every penny raised contributes to improving the lives of children undergoing cancer treatment and supporting their families.

Anna Simpson, depot administrator and cashier at Covers in Gosport, played a key role in organizing the fundraising activities and presenting the cheque to Charlotte. She expressed her joy at the generosity of customers and the community in supporting Sophie’s Legacy, a cause that is close to her heart.
