The PDeCAT has announced this Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with the Government to equate the tax treatment of the different religious denominations, so that they can enjoy tax benefits such as exemption from the Real Estate Tax (IBI) or Corporation Tax .
PDeCAT deputy Genís Boadella did so at a press conference, detailing that this agreement will materialize in a transactional amendment to the bill to modify the Patronage Law, which will be approved next Wednesday by the Finance Commission of the Lower House to continue its parliamentary process in the Senate.
Precisely this Tuesday, the Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Democratic Memory, Félix Bolaños, meets at the headquarters of the ministry with representatives of the Orthodox Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Buddhist Union of Spain-Federation of Buddhist Entities of Spain (UBE-FEBE) and the Church of Jesus Christ of the Saints of the Last Days (of Mormon religion).
“There is agreement with the Government on this idea of ??equating the tax treatment of the different religious denominations and that it be the same for all of them,” said Boadella, who was “happy” that this issue was previously raised by his formation and others like ERC, “come to a good end”.
Parliamentary sources have explained to EFE that the amendment will regulate the exemption from the IBI of places of worship and their dependencies or buildings and attached premises that are used for worship or religious assistance and the residence of ministers of worship.
It will also be applied -the sources consulted have added- to the premises destined to offices of the different religious denominations and the educational centers destined to the training of ministers of worship.
Currently, in addition to the Catholic Church, the Federation of Evangelical Religious Entities, the Federation of Israeli Communities and the Islamic Commission are also exempt from IBI or Corporation Tax.
Last March, the Government reached an agreement with the Spanish Episcopal Conference (CEE) which implies the resignation of the Catholic Church to exemptions from taxes on Constructions, Installations and Works (ICIO) and those that affect Special Contributions
