The circulation on the high-speed line that connects Madrid and Barcelona is interrupted between Brihuega and Las Inviernas, towns located in the province of Guadalajara, due to a failure that affects the electrification system, according to the railway manager Adif.

The problem in the electrical infrastructure of the tracks has caused two trains to be stopped on the aforementioned section, one from the state operator Renfe and another from the low-cost railway company Iryo, which had departed from Barcelona and planned to arrive in Madrid at 4:40 p.m.

“Another operator has caused damage to the catenary. We await instructions from ADIF to resume the service. We will keep you informed,” explains a message that passengers on that train have received from Iryo.

One of them has detailed to EFE that after being stopped for more than half an hour about one hundred kilometers from Madrid, the train moved backwards to change tracks.

In addition, trains that had to leave in either direction are stopped at the points of origin.

“At this moment, we are working to resume circulation as soon as possible,” Adif sources assure EFE, adding that “the causes of the incident may be multiple” and they are investigating what may have caused the failure in the electrification system. composed of catenary and pantograph – device that connects the train to the power line.

Adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Alie have not been ruled out either, which has caused the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) to decree an orange alert for wind and a yellow alert for rain in Brihuega.

Its passage through the center of the peninsula has forced a red alert to be declared in Madrid between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. due to adverse weather conditions; even the Aemet predicts wind gusts of up to 62 kilometers per hour in the capital.

Given the paralysis of traffic between Madrid and Barcelona, Renfe offers free exchanges and returns.

The strong gusts of wind have caused incidents that have led to the closure of the section of the Córdoba-Linares-Baeza railway line between Montoro and Villa del Río, in Córdoba, also affecting the Seville AVE line.

As reported by Adif, the wind has caused an element to fall on the electrification contact line in the section of the Córdoba-Linares-Baeza line between Montoro and Villa del Río, where traffic is interrupted because it is a single track.

In the case of Seville, traffic on the AVE line between Majarabique and Guadajoz has suffered an incident with a piece of the electrification system knocked down by the wind.

Among the commuter lines that circulate through the Community of Madrid, since 4:50 p.m., due to adverse weather conditions, circulation between Nuevos Ministerios and Atocha through the Sol tunnel has been interrupted. This incident affects services on lines C3 and C4, according to detailed Renfe. Travelers on these lines are being routed through the trains that circulate between Nuevos Ministerios and Atocha through the Recoletos tunnel.

On the other hand, the fall of a tree on the catenary interrupts circulation between El Escorial and Villalba, which affects line C8. To guarantee customer mobility, alternative road service is established between both stations. In addition, due to flooding of the underpass, Cercanías trains do not stop in Pinar de las Rozas.

On the other hand, in the vicinity of Asturias, between 9:00 and 10:30 a.m., the fall of a tree on the infrastructure caused the interruption of the Gijón-Oviedo metric gauge line in the Sotiello-Gijón section. This incident has affected five trains for which an alternative road service has been established.

In turn, air traffic controllers reported through their social networks that the Adolfo Suárez-Madrid Barajas Airport is experiencing a “complicated afternoon” with runway closures that may cause delays in takeoffs.

Specifically, runway 18R has been closed for cleaning tasks, as well as runway 36L due to the weather situation. It also temporarily canceled simultaneous parallel takeoffs due to the storm. Aena, for its part, has not provided any information.
