it is Known that the papillary thyroid carcinoma is often caused by mutations in two genes. An international research team led by cell biologist Krishnaraj Rajalingam has examined all of the genes and proteins of the cancer cells in order to understand the impact of these mutations better.
The researchers found several previously unknown proteins that promote the cancer growth and, therefore, as targets for possible new drugs could be used. One of these proteins is formed by the Fusion of two genes. The Mainz study was funded by the German cancer aid.
