When it comes to the Skoda Superb, many people often think of a typical feature: “It has an enormous amount of space!” But what qualities does the Czech still have as a used car? According to TÜV, it can convince for the most part during the main inspection.
Even the name indicates it: With the Superb, Skoda is claiming to be in the upper class. In the rear, the flagship of the Czech VW subsidiary is as spacious as a state car, the station wagon is more spacious than the competition. And during the main inspection (HU), according to the “Auto Bild TÜV Report 2022”, the model convinces “through quality” despite the often high mileage. However, not for all components.
Model history
The reinterpretation of the Superb is already in its third generation. In 2001, Skoda revived a model name that the manufacturer had used for luxury cars in the 1930s and 1940s. Generations two and three went on sale in 2008 and 2015, respectively. Skoda carried out facelifts in 2013 and 2019.
body variants
Standard is the version as a notchback. But since 2010 the Superb has also been available as a spacious station wagon (designation: Combi). Customers can only choose this as a scout, a version with more ground clearance and protective covering.

Strengthen
Despite often high mileage – the Superb is used a lot as a company car – even the fifth HU still complete 70 percent without defects, writes the “Auto Bild TÜV Report 2022”. The drive shafts, low beam and rear lights work reliably over the long term, and the function of the foot and parking brakes and the quality of the brake hoses and lines hardly give any cause for criticism. The exhaust system also proves to be durable. The Czech usually passes the emissions test (AU).
weaknesses
Two quirks plague Superb drivers: Over all years of construction, the axle springs tend to break. Vehicles that drive up to the second and third HU are particularly affected. And the brake discs cause complaints, increased wear is noticed right from the first appointment. The second generation shows increasing defect rates for indicators and headlights from the third HU.
breakdown behavior
The ADAC certifies that the model performs satisfactorily to well: In the club’s breakdown statistics, the Superb only occupies a midfield position in 2010 to 2013 and 2019. Copies from the other years of registration occupy better places. The main point of breakdown is therefore the battery.
