According to provisional figures released Friday, August 4 by the Ministry of Labor, the monthly basic salary index (SMB) in the private sector increased by 1% in the second quarter compared to the first, an increase of 4.6 % over one year, higher than that of prices (4.4%). The SMB, measured in private companies (excluding agriculture) with 10 or more employees, represents the gross salary, i.e. before the deduction of social security contributions and the payment of social benefits, and excluding bonuses and overtime.
The basic hourly wage index for workers and employees (SHBOE) increased by 1.1% compared to the first quarter of 2022 and by 5.2% over one year.
“These developments must be compared with inflation”, recalls in its press release the statistics department of the Ministry of Labor (Dares). Consumer prices (excluding tobacco and for all households) increased by 4.4% between the end of June 2022 and the end of June 2023.
“Over one year and in constant euros, the SHBOE therefore increased by 0.7% and the SMB by 0.2%”, underlines the Dares. By sector of activity, the SMB increased, during the second quarter, by 1.1% in industry, by 1.0% in the tertiary sector and by 0.9% in construction. Over one year, the increase is 4.7% for industry, 4.6% for the tertiary sector and 4.1% for construction.
By socio-professional category, the SMB increased during the 2nd quarter by 1.3% for employees and by 0.9% for workers, intermediate professions and managers. Over one year, it rose by 5.2% for workers, 4.9% for employees, 4.3% for intermediate professions and 3.7% for managers.
