The takeover by KTM gave GasGas a boost. For the first time in its history, the specialist for trials machines and sports enduro can now offer real motorcycles with a decent displacement and performance with the technical help from Austria. However, the company remains true to its roots.
The specialty of the small Spanish motorcycle manufacturer GasGas has so far been trial machines and small sports enduros. But since the takeover by KTM in 2020, the Spaniards have been aiming for higher things. The technical basis between the new gas gas Supermoto SM 700 or the Enduro ES 700 and the KTM 690 SMC R/Enduro R and Husqvarna 701 Supermoto/701 Enduro is identical.
Accordingly, both 700 models from GasGas are based on a tubular steel frame, in the center of which is a single cylinder with a displacement of 693 cubic centimeters, which delivers 75 hp to the rear wheel via a six-speed gearbox and chain. The SM, which weighs around 150 kilograms, has a WP Apex chassis.
On the front wheel, a 32-centimetre single Brembo disc with a radially mounted caliper provides deceleration. The cockpit display consists of a minimalist LC display and some warning lights. The technical equipment with 6D sensors includes Quickshifter, cornering ABS and traction control.
The enduro variant ES 700 differs from the SM primarily through other chassis components with even longer spring deflections. The spoked wheels fitted with studded tires are 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear.
The front wave brake disc with a diameter of 30 centimeters is gripped by a floating brake calliper. Both 700 models cost around 11,500 euros each, which is the same as the KTM sister models.
