Mannheim (dpa / lsw) – In order to prepare for asphalt work on the Autobahn 656 near Mannheim, the route in the direction of the big city will be closed at the weekend. Drivers coming from the direction of Heidelberg or Darmstadt should use the signposted diversion from around 10 p.m. on Friday until around 4 a.m. on Monday, as the Southwest branch of the federally owned Autobahn GmbH announced on Tuesday.
The diversion leads via the A5 to the Heidelberg/Schwetzingen junction, then via the B535 to the Schwetzingen-Nord/Brühl junction and from there via the A6 to the Mannheim junction. Anyone coming from Karlsruhe on the A5 with destination Mannheim should also drive to the Heidelberg/Schwetzingen junction and then take this detour.
During the asphalt work on the A656 lane in the direction of Heidelberg, traffic must be switched to the oncoming lane, according to the information. There is only one lane narrowed in each direction. The blocking is necessary to set up the new course. According to the announcement, the open-pored asphalt, which is then to be installed, serves to protect against noise. The work is expected to be completed by the end of July.
