According to the government, 14 children and a teacher were killed in a gun attack at an elementary school in the US state of Texas. The attacker was also dead, said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday. The 18-year-old, who was armed with a handgun and possibly a rifle, was probably shot dead by police officers.
The attack happened at an elementary school in the small town of Uvalde, 135 kilometers west of San Antonio. The US broadcaster ABC initially reported two dead and around a dozen injured after an incident with an “active shooter”. A suspect was taken into custody. According to local broadcaster Kens5, it was still unclear whether the fatalities were children.
Just over a week ago, a gunman with an assault rifle opened fire in a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, killing ten people and injuring three others. The 18-year-old suspect was arrested at the scene.
