Download Festival: New Traffic Measures Announced to Avoid Delays
Highways authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure a smoother experience for attendees of the upcoming Download Festival, following last year’s unprecedented congestion.
With an expected turnout of 75,000 people at Donington Park in Leicestershire from June 14 to June 16, National Highways are advising festival-goers to plan their journeys carefully. Major traffic increases are anticipated on routes including the M1, A42, A453, A50, and A38 starting from June 12 when campsites open.
In response to last year’s traffic chaos, organizers have implemented a new traffic plan to prevent similar issues. Attendees are urged to allow extra travel time, follow event signage instead of relying on GPS, and be prepared for changes in parking locations and entry points.
To minimize congestion, designated pick-up and drop-off points will be separate from camping entrances, and additional parking fields and access gates will be available. Attendees can use QR codes on parking passes for real-time updates on parking availability.
National Highways will also deploy extra traffic patrols to keep vehicles moving smoothly, while non-festival traffic is encouraged to avoid the area. Festival director Jess Shields reassured attendees that this year’s event will have a different format with two arrival days to distribute traffic more evenly.
By working closely with authorities and implementing strategic plans, organizers aim to address previous issues and ensure a seamless experience for festival-goers.
