An unlikely Duo: As the founder of the Swiss women’s Metal Band Burning Witches Romana Kalkuhl (30) one of the hardest Rock in Switzerland is. Grew up the Sensitivity to is surrounded, however, by far less brutal sounds: her father Meinolf Kalkuhl (59) sings as a Tenor at the Zurich Opera house.
Before she played with her Band to the big stages of Europe, spent a Romana as a child, hours with the father in the Opera-house behind the stage. “It was great. I could put makeup on me and dress up. It had an infinite number of colors and mirror in the wardrobe.” A face full of stage make-up, may admire the blonde girl to his father in his performances. “I was impressed by how powerful his voice is. I loved classical music. Especially splendid operas as “La Traviata” and “The magic flute” had it done to me.”
But as a Teenager, Romanas taste in music changes dramatically. She discovered her penchant for Rock and Heavy Metal. “I stand on hard guitar Riffs and the Priest heard continuously for Bands such as Nirvana and Linkin Park, Metallica, or Judas. As I was able to play the guitar, I knew: I want to have my own Band.”
2015 is based on the Sensitivity to the Burning Witches, one of the few all-women bands in the Metal scene and one of Switzerland’s most successful Rock exports. Meinolf Kalkuhl is impressed by the volume of his daughter, who makes totally different music than he is. “My dad comes to almost every one of my performances,” said Romana. “He supports me where he can, and is my biggest Fan.”
Also known as the “burning witches” in August 2019 at the Wacken Open Air occur, is dad Kalkuhl with it. After the performance, he accompanied the daughter of Romana in the Backstage area of the festival. “This was a very special Moment for both of us,” says the guitarist. “In the past, I visited him behind the stage, now he’s me.” Also the Fans are thrilled by their father. “The find that incredibly cool that an Opera singer comes to the Heavy Metal concert.
