The gruesome discovery of two children’s bodies in a suitcase in New Zealand leads investigators on the trail of a woman in South Korea. Now the suspect is handed over to the authorities of the island state. She is scheduled to appear before a judge later this week.
After the shocking discovery of children’s bodies in suitcases bought at auction in New Zealand, a 40-year-old suspect was extradited from South Korea to the Pacific state. According to the South Korean Justice Ministry, the woman was handed over to New Zealand officials at Incheon International Airport on Monday evening (local time). Evidence was also handed over.
The plane with the suspect landed in Auckland. Radio New Zealand reported that she would appear before a judge on Wednesday on charges of double murder. The New Zealander, who once held South Korean citizenship, was arrested in mid-September at an apartment in the southeastern coastal city of Ulsan.
The woman, who may be the mother of the dead children, is said to have entered South Korea in 2018. The Seoul High Court approved the extradition in November. The bodies of the children, aged between five and 10, were found in suitcases sold at a clearance auction in Auckland, New Zealand, in August.
According to police reports, a short time later it was possible to identify the victims and thus track down the woman. According to the police, the suitcases had previously been kept in a warehouse for three to four years. The police in the South Pacific island state then made the extradition request.
