After the fatal attack at the CSD in Münster, there was also an attack on a trans person in Bremen. In a tram in the Hanseatic city, a group of teenagers attacked a 57-year-old. One of the youths punches the trans woman in the face, seriously injuring her.
A group of young people attacked and seriously injured a trans woman in a tram in Bremen. The young people fled after the crime on Saturday evening, as a police spokeswoman said on Monday. State security is investigating hate crime and dangerous bodily harm.
The 57-year-old from Bremen was on the tram at around 7.35 p.m. when a group of ten to 15 young people got on at a stop in the city centre. They insulted the woman and tore off her wig. A perpetrator, who was estimated by witnesses to be 14 to 16 years old, punched the woman in the face with both fists. The others in the group cheered on the attacker, the police spokeswoman said.
Only when other passengers intervened did the group let go of the woman and get off the train. The youth fled. The victim was taken to a hospital with serious facial injuries. The police are now evaluating the videos from the surveillance camera on the train, said the police spokeswoman.
Bremen’s Senator for Social Affairs, Anja Stahmann, sharply condemned the attack. “It is unacceptable that people have to fear for their lives because of their gender identity,” she said in Bremen. The Greens politician also expressed her sympathy for the woman who was attacked and thanked the passengers who had intervened.
Just a few days ago, a 25-year-old transman died in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, after an attack on the sidelines of an event for Christopher Street Day (CSD). According to the police, he had placed himself protectively in front of participants who had been massively insulted and threatened by a 20-year-old who was hostile to queers. The 20-year-old then suddenly hit the 25-year-old in the face with his fist, after which he fell over. He died later in hospital. The alleged attacker is in custody. After the attack in Münster, Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced tougher action against anti-queer violence.
Trans people are people who do not identify with the gender they were assigned at birth.
