Following the fiasco that capped the 2017 Oscars Sunday night, the stars headed out to Vanity Fair after-party, and many leading ladies swapped out their red carpet looks for all-new outfits.
We’ve gathered some of the before-and-afters in the gallery above, along with some of the more, um, attention-getting looks of the evening. Of the Oscar quick-change artists, we loved Ruth Negga’s after-party cocktail dress, a modern strapless Oscar de la Renta with splashes of color, compared to her fussy red Valentino, and we also preferred Dakota Johnson’s black spaghetti-strapped Gucci with its wan pink sash, but only because her ’30-style long-sleeved yellow Gucci was such a disaster.
As for Jessica Biel, let’s just call it a draw — her gold Kaufmanfranco gown at the ceremony was eye-catching but the gold feathered collar from Tiffany was too much, while her peek-a-boo bronze caped look at the Vanity Fair ball didn’t quite work either.
Other stars who made an impression one way or another at the Vanity Fair party: Elizabeth Banks in an unusual gold Elie Saab gown with blue, yellow and pink floral applique; Freida Pinto in another Elie Saab, a sparkly teal one-shouldered gown, the bright color instantly setting her apart; Jessica Alba in an ethereal ruffled pale blue Ralph & Russo; Mariah Carey, busting out, as per usual, in her Phillip Plein; and Sarah Paulson in a severe yellow and black velvet Ronald Van Der Kamp.
