Summer will give everything again in the coming days. Those who are not on the coast will hardly be able to escape temperatures above 30 degrees. Thunderstorms will follow in the coming weeks, moving from west to east, as ntv meteorologist Björn Alexander says.
ntv: The weekend is just around the corner – what are the weather forecasts?
Björn Alexander: The heat will continue to increase until Sunday. At first the air will be dry and hot, before it gets increasingly muggy on Sunday. At the same time, there are also more tropical nights, i.e. with lows not below 20 degrees. On Monday there will be a partly stormy day before it gets very hot again for a short time and then thunderstorms again.
That sounds like a weather roller coaster. Before that, however, there was little variety. Why was that?
On the one hand, such high-pressure weather conditions with lots of sun and the corresponding temperatures actually go very well with midsummer. That’s because the weather-controlling flow, known as the jet stream, tends to be far to the north in summer. On the other hand – and this is the main problem – the last few months and especially July have given us a very difficult starting position. Similar to the drought year 2018, high pressures repeatedly dominated and the weak low-lying areas left some regions dry again and again.
But that could change now, right?
Monday in any case with a first low spur. Over the next week, however, the lows could tend to become much more intrusive. Until then, there will be rain in other parts of Europe.
Where? For example in parts of France, on the central Mediterranean or in the direction of the Balkans and Greece. There is also a risk of severe weather from heavy rain, hail and gusts of wind. For example, there have recently been violent thunderstorms over southern Italy. The town of Monteforte Irpino in the province of Avellino was the worst hit.
Back to Germany from the holiday regions: what are the details for our weekend?
Saturday will be mostly sunny. Only from the Oder to the Alps is it partly cloudy and local showers or thunderstorms are possible, preferably over the eastern low mountain ranges. The rest of the country will remain dry. In addition, the temperatures like to climb again by one to three degrees. This often means maximum values ??between 28 and 35 degrees. Only the coastal sections in the sea wind and the edge of the Alps remain fresher.
And on Sunday?
Will it get hotter again? It is often just under 30 to 35, in the west even up to 36 degrees. According to the current status, the hottest places are likely to be on the Lower Rhine. In terms of weather, we can expect a lot of sun again with increasing humidity. In this respect, it would be best for us to shift down a gear again on Sunday. Take it easy and drink a lot is the motto.
What’s the weather like on Monday?
This brings strong thunderstorms in places, especially in the south-west half – sometimes with a risk of severe weather from the usual suspects: heavy rain, hail and gusts of wind. That pushes the maximum values ??down to below 30 degrees there, while in the east again up to 34 degrees are to be expected. After that, the flow of hot air still does not stop.
With what consequences?
On Tuesday and Wednesday it will again be hot to very hot in the south and east. Peaks up to 35 degrees or slightly above are conceivable. At the same time, thunderstorms are heading west and north in the sometimes oppressive air – with the likelihood of thunderstorms on Wednesday being much greater. Further storms cannot be ruled out either.
How does it look afterwards?
The thunderstorms are likely to spread further east on Thursday and Friday and end the very intense heat there as well. A look at the forecast for the weekend after next currently shows 20 to 26 degrees. Certainly a welcome time to air out and breathe deeply after the heat battle before.
