That’s what you call beginner’s luck: An 18-year-old in Canada is playing the lottery for the first time in her life – and promptly picks six correct ones. She didn’t even know how to fill out the form properly.

In Canada, an 18-year-old student filled out a lottery ticket for the first time in her life – and immediately won a jackpot of $48 million (32 million euros). Juliette Lamour of Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario bought the lottery ticket at her grandfather’s suggestion. “He said, ‘You just turned 18, (…) buy a lottery ticket and try your luck,'” said the biology student.

Having never played the lottery before, Lamour from the lottery shop had to call her father and ask him exactly what to do. According to the Lotteries of the Ontario Province OLG, Lamour is the youngest winner of such a large jackpot in Canadian lottery history.

The student hadn’t checked her ticket and only pricked up her ears when she found out that the winning ticket was in Sault Ste. Marie had been bought. A colleague then checked the bill via the OLG app – and Lamour could hardly believe her luck. The freshly minted millionaire first wants to complete her biology degree. When investing the millions, she counts on the tips of her father, who is a financial planner.
