Mexico’s official Oscar submission for the best international feature film category has been announced as Astrid Rondero and Fernanda Valadez’s drama “Sujo”. The film tells the story of a young man who must come to terms with his father’s past as a cartel hitman.

“Sujo” is set to be released in select US and Canadian markets on November 29th. The film premiered at Sundance where it received the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize: Drama. It will also be featured in San Sebastian’s Horizontes Latinos strand, which showcases films from Latin America, and the AFI Latin American Film Festival.

The producers of “Sujo” include Rondero, Valadez, Diana Casarreal, Jewerl Keats Ross, Devesa, Jean-Baptiste Bailly-Maitre, and Nicolas Celis. This marks the second collaboration between Rondero and Valadez, following their previous film “Identifying Features” which received awards at Sundance in 2020.

Alpha Violet holds the worldwide rights to “Sujo” and has already secured several distribution deals for the film. In addition to the exciting news about “Sujo”, it has been announced that Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi will star in Emerald Fennell’s upcoming film “Wuthering Heights” for MRC and LuckyChap.
