Kiko Veneno was at El Hormiguero on Monday March 20 to promote his documentary Un día Lobo López. The artist recalled in the Antena 3 space how he created his album Échate un cantecito and shared how one of his most popular songs was born.

Pablo Motos commented at a certain point in the interview: “They always say that music owes a lot to alcohol and drugs, but you composed Lobo López under the effects of a suppository for vertigo.” The presenter asked him: “How would you define the effects of an anal high?”

The guest pointed out: “Alcohol and joints were normal things in our generation. We believed that all artists did it and it was like inseparable to compose songs in our style.” Later he recounted that he suffered vertigo attacks since he was little: “He had the first one when he was 11 or 12 years old. You have to throw yourself to the ground, it’s horrible… They caused me a lot of anguish.”

The singer recounted that at the age of 30 he went to the doctor to be checked: “They looked at everything and couldn’t say exactly what it was.” Some time later, a doctor prescribed a suppository that helped her a lot: “The next time I had a vertigo attack, I put it on. Not only did my vertigo go away, but I felt happiness… I had a lot of anguish and I saw that I had a cure, that I did not have to live my whole life a slave to this. It gave me happiness and I wrote the entire lyrics of Lobo López in two hours”.

Kiko Veneno assured in El Hormiguero that he did not start earning money with music until he turned 40 in 1992 and released Échate un cantecito. He looked back and explained that he had been part of the Veneno group, along with the brothers Rafael and Raimundo Amador. His first album was published in 1977, but it did not work commercially: “He was very recognized afterwards, he had a lot of influence… Some told me that he had anticipated the future.”

“I couldn’t even suspect that I was a musician, that I could compose songs, sing, play the guitar… I approached this world and incredible doors opened for me… They took something out of me that I didn’t know I had” he declared.
