The case is causing a nationwide sensation: last week, a teenager was driving in Brandenburg at well over 200 kilometers per hour instead of the permitted 120, as an “accompanied” novice driver with his mother at his side. Now the duo is following up in Berlin.
A 17-year-old raced at 165 instead of the permitted 80 kilometers per hour on the Berlin Autobahn 100 – with his mother as a passenger. According to the police, the young man was noticed by a highway police patrol on Thursday night. A speed measurement that was then carried out revealed the high value, whereupon the officials stopped the high-horsepower car.
When checking the driver, they found that he had been caught by the Brandenburg police on Autobahn 13 last week at more than 200 kilometers per hour. Only 120 were allowed. On Twitter, the investigators even showed after that incident that the speed was even 219 kilometers per hour. The 17-year-old novice driver is therefore in possession of a test certificate “Accompanied driving from 17”. The juvenile now faces a misdemeanor proceeding.
According to the information, this is associated with at least two points, a fine of 1,600 euros and a three-month driving ban for the case in the capital according to the catalog of fines. In addition, the young person must take part in a traffic law advanced seminar, which extends his probationary period by two years. After the check, the 17-year-old was able to continue his journey.
The “accompanied driving from 17” is actually intended as a gentle introduction to driving a car. Parents or other trusted persons should guide novice drivers in the still new road jungle.
